Silver Lake Middle School is a community built on respect, responsibility, and academic excellence. Our mission, in collaboration with students’ families and the larger communities, is to foster social, emotional, and academic growth in our middle level learners.  In a healthy, safe environment, students are challenged by rigorous academics and encouraged by dedicated staff to discover and embrace their own unique abilities and talents.  We seek to promote a pattern of lifelong learning that will best enable our students to be contributing members of society and meet with success in a rapidly changing world.

                  Grade 7- Mrs. Baker 2008-2009

Welcome to Health Class. This class will introduce you to a variety of topics designed to help you stay healthy for life. This is one of your rounds classes and ends up being 1/3 of your school year. We will be working in units of study.  You will receive a grade on your report card after term 2 and term 4. You will be assessed on achieving the following skills and knowledge

          Core Concepts

                   Decision Making

                   Accessing Information

                   Analyzing Influences

                   Goal Setting

                   Interpersonal Communication

                   Advocacy

Topics will include:
         
I. Introduction to Health (Unit 1)

                   What is health and the health triangle?

                   The Science of Healthy Behaviors

          II. Research   (Unit 2)

How to complete reliable health research using books, encyclopedias, magazines, newspapers, and the internet.

          III. Nutrition & Fitness (Unit 3)

              FUEL

           IV. Tobacco and Other Drugs (Unit 4a)

                   Keepin’ It Real

          V. Growth and Development: Yuk! Puberty     (Unit 4b)

                   Male & Female Reproductive System

There will be homework and special projects.

Your daily requirements are

          A folder to carry papers

          A bluebook supplied by me

          A pen or a pencil
